The cabin is heated by an attractive and efficient Jotul wood stove. Water heating is done with an LP gas water heater, housed outside the living space for additional safety. The cabin sets on a compacted gravel pad and concrete pads.

LAND The lot surrounding the cabin is a 20 +/- acre surveyed site. This land is relatively flat with elevations from 305 to 320 +/- FASL. Along the 700 feet of lake shore, this land has some older growth hemlock and pine trees. When you get further from the water the land transitions into a softwood and hardwood mix of early successional forest. Grouse and woodcock love the cover provided by this forest type.

OUTBUILDINGS There is plenty of exterior storage in the 3 bay pole barn. Keep a season's worth of firewood, house your generator, park an ATV and snowmobile. Behind the pole barn is a “fancy” pit privy for those in search of a true camping experience.

THE LAKE SYSTEM Horseshoe Lake is a wilderness pond in Lakeville, Maine with about 400 surface acres and depths to 25 feet. This is considered a warm water fishery with trophy specimens of smallmouth bass and white perch. The outlet of Horseshoe runs into Junior Lake and can be navigated with a canoe or kayak. Horseshoe lake is one of many lakes in the St Croix River drainage. Some of these include West Grand Lake, Upper and Lower Syslodobsis Lakes, Lombard Lake, Keg Lake, Junior Lake, Pocumcus Lake, Scraggly Lake and many more. Wilderness fishing and boating trips with stays at primitive camp sites are popular here. Much of the shoreline around these lakes have been conserved or protected by DownEast Lakes Land Trust, Native Americans, Maine Public Reserved Lands and large timber holding companies.

RECREATION Lets not forget why many come to this part of New England. This region of Maine is an outdoor enthusiasts fun park. From the property you can access hundreds of miles of snowmobile and ATV trails. Hunting whitetail deer, black bear, waterfowl, upland birds and other small game. Fishing Horseshoe and other connected and nearby lakes for everything from smallmouth bass and perch to salmonids like landlocked salmon, brook trout and togue.
