There is a border crossing to enter Canada and re-enter the US.
Festivals are plenty in the area. You can attend from a Fog Fest to an International Festival in the community. Hand crafters and artisans present their wares for purchase. Demonstrations are abundant from painting to metal crafting.
Schools are scattered among the small towns. Lubec is home to an elementary school as is Whiting. East Machias is home to a n elementary and a private high school as well as Machias. Edmunds Township has an elementary school. Eastport has elementary and high schools.
Industry here is mostly commercial fishing. Scallops, crab, halibut, clams, urchins are the most popular fisheries. Wood harvesting is another form of work here. Organic farms are popular providing much sought-after fresh veggies, meat, and dairy. The community is made up of year-round residents as well as summer folks. The ocean, easy, friendly atmosphere draws many to this area.
